JOHN MANNING, 82 ROCKFORD - John Manning, 82, of Rockford passed away Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010. Born May 17, 1928, in Chicago. Married Lillian LaRusso on April 28, 1951, in Chicago. Graduated from Geneva High School. Proudly served his country as an airborne medic in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, going on cruises, dancing, fishing, and eating and drinking with friends at Pearl and Angelo's. Survivors include son, John D. (Barbara) Manning; daughter, Jan (Robert Stenstrom); grandchildren, Christie (Ehren) Jarrett, Robert J. (Melissa) Stenstrom and Kelly Manning; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Lillian Jarrett and Berkeley Stenstrom; sister, Elizabeth Chudy; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by wife, Lillian: mother, Elizabeth Matausich; and sister, Irene Klinger. Special thanks to the staff at P.A. Peterson, especially to Nurse Nilie, for the loving care they provided. Service at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, in Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road, with visitation from 1:30 p.m. to time of service; Chaplin Dr. Charles V. Olson will officiate.
