Rose D. Carpenter, 83 BELVIDERE - Rose D. Carpenter, 83, of Belvidere died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, in her home surrounded by her family after a sudden illness. She was born Jan. 16, 1927, in Rockford to Emil and Alma (Ulin) Ohlin. She lived her entire adult life in Belvidere. She was employed as a hostess and assistant manager for the Huddle Restaurant for 25 years, retiring in 1998. Rose was a member of First United Methodist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, playing cards, games and taking care of other people. She is survived by daughters, Donna (Greg) Keegan of Belvidere and Debbie Richardson of Rockford; and son-in-law, Jim Culvey of Belvidere; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Rose is also preceded in death by parents; daughter, Shirley Culvey; sisters, Evelyn Sauberlich and Mildred Bergstrom; and brother, Laverne Ohlin. Service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, in First United Methodist Church, 610 Bonus Ave. Burial in Belvidere Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. Memorials may be directed to the Rockford Rescue Mission.
