JOANNE (ADES) HASSELL JACKSON ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Joanne (Ades) Hassell Jackson died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, surrounded by loved ones, after battling a respiratory disorder. Joanne was born Sept. 20, 1939, in Rockford, Ill. Joanne graduated with a BA from Avilia College, Kansas City, Mo., and completed her masters of education from University of Virginia. She worked as a special education teacher then as a court mediator and probation officer for Charlottesville District Court before retiring and moving to Alexandria, to be closer to her children and grandchildren. Survivors include sons, David Jackson and his wife, Susie of Alexandria and Steve Jackson and his wife, Tracy of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren; sister, Barbara Fry and her husband, Tom; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. Predeceased by parents, Dorothy Evelyn Thompson Ades and Lewis Blakeman Ades; and her first husband, Lt. Peter David Hassell. A celebration of life at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church, 1909 Windmill Lane, Alexandria.
