NATHANIEL 'BIG BUD' SMART ROCKFORD - Nathaniel "Big Bud" Smart of Rockford departed this earthly life Thursday, March 29, 2012, in his home, after a long illness. Born June 19, 1953, in Rockford; the son of Lue Ada Smart and Benny Walker. Nathaniel married the former Debra Dixon on Oct. 11, 1985. He was employed nine years by SwedishAmerican Hospital in the housekeeping department. Nathaniel was a member of The Next Level Church, serving as a trustee. He attended Durant (Miss.) High School. Nathaniel leaves to cherish many memories, his loving wife, Debra; daughter, Lashondra Watkins; stepson, Michael Dixon; stepdaughters, Felicia Dixon and Takela Dixon; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; brothers, Charles (Rosemary) Smart, Eddie (Lorraine) Jarrett, Albert Jarrett and Spencer (Pam) Jarrett; sister, Lisa (Pastor Marcus) Smith; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends including goddaughter, Quatecia Jones. Predeceased by his parents and grandparents, Tommy and Idell Smart. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 1901 W. State St., with visitation from 9 a.m. to time of service; the Rev. Terry Holloway will officiate. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home, 2429 W. State St.
