MELLANY L. (VICK) MCDUFFA, 54 LOVES PARK - Mellany L. (Vick) McDuffa, 54, of Loves Park died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at home, after a six and a half year battle with ovarian cancer. Born Sept. 7, 1958, in Beloit, Wis., daughter of Don and Ruth (Kolden) Vick. Graduated from Hononegah High School in 1976 and from Illinois State University in 1980. Married David McDuffa on Oct. 1, 2005, in Rockford. Employed by Rockford Health System for 25 years as a clinical lab specialist. She enjoyed making bead jewelry, drawing, camping, traveling and occasional ride on the Spyder. Survivors include husband, David; parents, Don and Ruth Vick of Rockton; sister, Millicent (August) Christopher of Rockton; stepchildren, Ryan and Eric McDuffa, both of Rockford; numerous nieces and nephews; father-in-law, Jerry (Carol) McDuffa of Russellville, Ala.; and her Westie companion, Jack. Predeceased by mother-in-law, Sandra Akers in 2010. Special thanks to neighbors, Jim and Pat Ericson and Wayne and Tek Hauglie, and all of her camping friends at Hickory Hills Campground. Also, thank you to the nurses and staff at Rockford Health System Cancer Center and A3 Oncology and Dr. Julian Schink at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Very special thank you to Mellany's sister, Millicent, for all the support and loving care during her illness. Service at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, in Riverside Community Church, 6816 N. Second St., Machesney Park. Burial in Rockton Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
