GERALD S. 'JERRY' JULIN, 90 ROCKFORD - Gerald S. "Jerry" Julin, 90, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, in Emeritus Senior Living. Born Jan. 1, 1922, in Rockford, the son of Simon V. and Ebba V. (Ellison) Julin. He married Doris E. (Ekstrom) on May 10, 1947, in Rockford, she passed away June 2, 2010. Gerald was a Rockford High School graduate. He enlisted in the U.S. Army 45th Division 157th Infantry Company D where he served in World War II from 1944 to 1946, with campaigns in Rhineland Central Europe. His decorations include, Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Theater, and W/2 Bronze Battle Stars. After his tour he worked for Greenlee Bros. Co., as a supervisor of the proposal engineering department. Gerald was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he worked as usher, church councilman, served on the property committee, and Prime Time Friends (senior group). He was a member of YMCA Retired Men's 500 club, American Legion 905, and enjoyed woodworking. He is survived by daughters, Vickie Lynn (Michael) Grochowski of Bridgeview and Christie Julin of Rockford; and granddaughter, Victoria (CW2 Ron) Brasel. Predeceased by son, James; grandson, Peter Grochowski; and sister, Betty Lou Julin of Rockford. Memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with the Rev. Dr. Michael Thomas officiating. Private family burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
