NORMAN L. BECKER, 81 ROCKFORD - Norman L. "Norm" Becker, 81, of Rockford died at 4:36 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital. Born Dec. 13, 1931, in Rockford, son of Lester and Dorothy (Seaver) Becker. Graduate of East High School. Served in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He married Janis Sandine on Sept. 15, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockford; they spent the next 61 years together as husband and wife. Norm was a wholesale florist representative for E.O. Brody Company. He and Janis owned and operated Norjan Inc., a floral supply company, for more than 24 years. He was a Rockford firefighter for five years and served as the Village of Winnebago Police chief. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a Mason and a Shriner. Norm loved talking to people and having breakfast every morning at Johnny Pamcakes restaurant with the D.O.M. Club. He is survived by wife, Janis; children, Dan S. (Toma) Becker of Winnebago and Julie (Greg) Altenbernd of Rockford; grandchildren, Dani Michelle (Jeremy) Frew, Anna Lea Becker, Alexandra Congleton and Jake Altenbernd; great-grandchildren, Lily, Colin and Taylor; brother, Burdette (Audrey) Becker; and sisters, Donna Jeanne Sundly and Ruth Anne Blair-Brown. Predeceased by daughter, Teri Lane; son, David M. Becker; and sister, Kathleen Renae Becker. Special thanks to the CCU and NTICU staffs at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 200 N. First St., with the Rev. Jay Quinn officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21 at the church.
