CHARLES 'CHARLIE' S. HALLEY, 88 WINNEBAGO - Charles "Charlie" S. Halley, 88, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, in Medina Manor, Durand, after a lengthy illness. Born June 4, 1924, in Rockford, the son of Ross and Ada (Stevens) Halley. Graduated from West High School in 1942. He served in the Marine Corps for three 1/2 years during World War II. Charles married Jacquelin Frey on Sept. 20, 1947, in Grace Methodist Church, Rockford. Together, with his father and brother, Charles was a builder for Halley Construction. Later, he was employed in the engineering department at Rockford Memorial Hospital for 11 years. Charles was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, a past master of Masonic Lodge No. 166 and Freeport Consistory member. He enjoyed golfing and raising his vegetable gardens. Charles is lovingly survived by his daughter, Deborah Halley of Alexandria, Va. Predeceased by his parents and wife, Jacquelin, on March 17, 2010. Graveside service at a later date in the spring at Owen Center Cemetery, Rockford. At Charles' request, cremation rites were accorded. His family was assisted by Genandt Funeral Home 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago.
