MELISSA DORSEY, 30 ROCKFORD - Melissa Dorsey, 30, of Washington, D.C., formerly of Rockford, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, from complications from surgery. Melissa was born March 16, 1982, on Long Island, N.Y., daughter of John and Nancy (Abinanti) Dorsey. She graduated from Guilford High School in 2000 and the University of Illinois in 2004. She went on to graduate from St. Louis University Law School in 2007, earning her Juris Doctorate. Melissa moved to Chicago to work in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Chicago. In January 2010, she moved to Washington, D.C., to work for The Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer. In March 2011, she was assigned as Consular Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel. Melissa had the gift of learning languages and spoke French and Hebrew. She was an avid runner and completed three Chicago Marathons. She loved to travel and explore different cultures. Melissa will be remembered by all who knew her as a kind, caring, funny person with an amazing spirit, always filled with energy, contagious giggles and a passion for life. Melissa loved and lived life to the fullest. Her sense of wit and humor will stay with all of us who knew her. She is survived by parents, John and Nancy Dorsey of Rockford; sister, Meaghan (Matt) Rose of Rockford; brother, Michael (Tina Aarvig) Dorsey of Chicago; grandparents, Joseph and Irene Abinanti of New York; grandmother, Evelyn Dorsey of New York; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Predeceased by grandfather, John Dorsey; and uncle, Alfred Dupree. Funeral mass at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at The Cathedral of Saint Peter, 1243 N. Church St., with burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, 1860 S.
