Shirley Bennett Obituary
SHIRLEY BENNETT ROCKFORD - Shirley Bennett of Rockford departed this earthly life Tues Jan. 22, 2013. Born Feb. 18, 1936, in Wisner, La., to Theodis Brass and Violet V. Long-Brass. Meeting the "love of her life," the Rev. Perry Bennett, the two were united in holy matrimony on Oct. 15, 1950, in Wisner, La. Mudea's life was simple, she loved God, her husband of 63 years, her family, and demonstrated neighborly love to everyone she encountered. A visit to the Bennett household one would soon realize that Mudea would put your hands to task. From helping her pick mustard greens, snap beans, shell peas, to cutting up and canning pears, her home was a place where you could always get a meal as she enjoyed cooking. Mudea leaves to treasure her memory, devoted husband, the Rev. Perry Bennett; two loving daughters, Shirley Marie Graham (Charles) of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Lula Ann Nesby-Lee (Timothy) of Fayetteville, Ga. Visitation from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1720 Perry Bennett Way, Rockford. Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Heartland Community Church, 1280 S. Alpine Road, Rockford, with visitation from 10 a.m. to time of service. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens, 8800 N. Alpine Road, Machesney Park.
