CLAYTON C. WINTER, 76 ROSCOE - Clayton C. Winter, 76, of Roscoe died at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at home after a sudden illness. Born Sept. 1, 1936, in Rockford, to Mr. and Mrs. Fayette and Martha (Eckstrom) Winter. Lifelong resident of the Roscoe and Rockford areas. A graduate of East High School. Married Sara Hopkins on April 15, 1962, in Rockton. Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving the U.S. Army. Former member of the Rockford Ski Broncs. Clayton was an avid golfer, enjoyed sports, playing cards and bad jokes. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by wife, Sara; daughter, Heather (Rick) Leber of Rockton; son, John (Jan) Winter of South Beloit; grandchildren, Shayna, Joshua, Marissa and Megan; sisters, Connie and Darlene; and the breakfast club at Sophia's Restaurant in Roscoe. He is predeceased by parents; and special friend, Oliver. Memorial ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Roscoe United Methodist Church, 10816 Main St., Roscoe, with the Rev. Dr. Paul C. Meyers officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 at McCorkle Funeral Home, 767 N. Blackhawk Blvd., Rockton. Cremation rites will be accorded.
