JOHN K. MOLENAAR, 86 ROCKFORD - John K. Molenaar, 86, of Rockford, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, in his home. Born Jan. 23, 1927, in Renville, Minn.; the son of Harry and Ivel (Clough) Molenaar. Served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Joan Lofquist June 7, 1959, in Willmar, Minn. John worked as a tool and die maker for Elco Industries for 33 years. Active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and his son's Boy Scout troop. John enjoyed gardening, camping and hiking in national parks across the country. He led many group outings for the National Sierra Club. He was a thoughtful neighbor who helped many with lawn mowing and snow removal. He is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Dawn (John) Porter of Minneapolis, Minn., and Greg (Beth) Molenaar of Fort Collins, Colo.; grandchildren, Laura and Christopher Porter and Kate Molenaar; siblings, Vernon (Grace) Molenaar of New London, Minn., and Gretchen (Lee) Henry of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and sisters-in-law, Harriet Molenaar of Renville, Minn., and Wanda Molenaar of Lexington, Ky. Predeceased by brothers, Harry and Norman. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St., with Pastor Jeff Fricke officiating. Memorial visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in the church. Memorials may be made to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, or to a memorial of donor's choice.
