RANDY SCOTT FORSELL, 66 ROCKTON - Randy Scott Forsell, 66, of Rockton, died quietly in his home Saturday, March 8, 2014, after a long fight with cancer. He was surrounded by friends and loved ones. Born March 3, 1948, in Rockford, the son of Frank and Beverly (Maynard) Forsell. Randy's passion as a boy and young man was for the game of baseball, in which he became an accomplished amateur athlete. He graduated from Guilford High School prior to serving with distinction in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After receiving his honorable discharge, Randy earned degrees from Rock Valley College, Northern Illinois University, and the National College of Education. He married Margaret White Aug. 25, 2012, in Rockton. He had a long career as a physical education teacher in the Rockford Public School district. Randy retired from teaching in 2006, and began concentrating on his interests for fishing, r/c planes, and travel. Randy was a lifetime member of the VietNow organization and participated with them in many events and parades. For many years, he chaired the selection committee for the Rockford Charter Chapter's college scholarship award. In recent years, he became a member of the American Legion Post 332 in Rockton. His interest in r/c planes led him to a membership with the Academy of Model Aeronautics and many hours of practice and discussion at Kieselberg Park and Hobby Town USA. Randy loved to fish. He loved to talk about fishing. He loved ice fishing, lake fishing, river fishing, deep sea fishing, and fishing in the pond behind his home. He, his friend, Chuck, and Chuck's sons, would travel to Cuyuna Scout Camp in Minnesota as many as three times a year for fishing tournaments and bragging rights.
