JOHN 'JACK' ALFRED AUGUSTUS SCOTT, 96 OREGON - John "Jack" Alfred Augustus Scott, 96, most recently of Oregon, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Pinecrest Terrace, Mount Morris. He was born January 2, 1918, in North Vancouver, BC, Canada, the son of Ernest Scott and Pearl Mather. From 1943 to 1945, he was an Officer and airplane mechanic in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Jack married his true love, Phyllis Fillmore, on September 21, 1945, and they would have celebrated 69 years of marriage this year. Jack received his bachelor degree from University of British Columbia, and his Master's degree in Engineering from Yale University. He worked for Olin Corporation as a chemical engineer for many years. Through his career he moved from Vancouver, BC, Canada, to Trail, BC, Canada, then to Spokane, Washington, across the country to North Haven, Connecticut, to Joliet, Illinois, and finally to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he retired in 1983. He and Phyllis relocated to Oregon, IL in 2005, after Hurricane Rita hit Lake Charles. Jack was loved by all the people who knew him everywhere he lived. Jack loved traveling, golfing, reading, playing Scrabble and Cribbage, and doing crossword puzzles with Phyllis. After retiring, he enjoyed giving back to his community through volunteering, including work at the local hospital, the literacy council, and tax preparation for seniors. After moving to Oregon, he and Phyllis loved spending time at the Rock River Senior Center with their many friends before moving to Pinecrest in 2012. Jack is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Diane (Leon Fiftal) Scott, Richard (Susan) Scott, Linda (Don) Pottinger 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother and many dear friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the staff at Pinecrest Terrace, who took such wonderful care of him the last two years.
