Eric Frank Obituary

ERIC G. FRANK, 97 ROCKFORD - Eric G. Frank, 97, of Rockford, died on Thursday, January 29, 2015. Born in Rockford, February 28, 1917, son of Ernest Frank and Elin Westerlund Frank. Eric was an active member of Temple Baptist Church. Graduated from Rockford Central High School in 1936. Married Edith Olson on April 2, 1938. Worked 40 years at Rockford Clutch Division of the Borg Warner Corporation. He loved his family, home and church. He was handy with things mechanical and electronic and had amateur radio station W9OVY since 1933. He loved reading, especially Biblical and technical material. He lived in Sweden for a year and went to school there which gave him a keen interest in his Swedish American heritage. With his wife, Edith, being handicapped for many years and spending her last years in a nursing home, he had a heart for patients and their families. After Edith's death he remained an active volunteer and received a couple of awards for volunteering. He worked two jobs most of his life by having a T.V. and radio repair business out of his home. He loved photography. Survived by children; Bryan Frank of Rockford, Larry (Sandy) Frank, of Madison, WI, and Janice (Donavan) Heide of St Paul, MN; daughter-in-law, Mary Frank of Rockford; grandchildren, Becky (John) Evans, Steve (Kristine) Frank, Gordon (Melissa) Frank, Stefanie (Kevin) Stewart, Christine Buss, Bryan (Shannon) Gilbertson, Brad (Sherry) Heide, and Laurie (Andrew) Varecka; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife, Edith; son, David Frank; and his parents. Funeral service to be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 in Fred C. Olson Chapels, 1001 Second Avenue, Rockford, IL 61104 with the Rev. Dr. William Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation to be held from 12 to 12:45 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials can be made to Temple Baptist Church, 3215 E. State St, Rockford, IL 61108. My late husband, John Brodin, worked with Eric for years at Rockford Clutch and he always spoke so highly of him. He was a great mentor.

I worked with Eric at Rkfd Powertrain. He will be missed by family and friends.
