W.C. Hefflefinger, 89, of Lubbock, formerly of Plainview, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013 at Raider Ranch. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, April 5, 2013, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Bruce Green officiating. There will be a time for visitation immediately following the service in the Parish Hall. Burial of his cremated remains will be in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home.
William Crofford Hefflefinger was born on May 30, 1923 in Plainview to Dennis and Ida Mae (Hall) Hefflefinger. He grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School. He attended and graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute, then enrolled in Texas A&M University. Upon completion of his sophomore year there, in 1942, he was drafted into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and served during World War II in the European Campaign with 1019th Treadway Bridge Company, which was transferred to the 282nd Combat Engineers attached to the 3rd Army under General Patton.
On July 14, 1946, he married Margaret Alice "Peggy" Burkholder in Washington, D.C. before returning to Texas where he earned his BBA degree at Texas Technological College. Upon graduation W.C. joined his father in the land and investment business in Texas and New Mexico, in which he enjoyed his life-long career. He was a member of the board for City National Bank of Plainview for over 20 years. W.C. was a long-time member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Plainview.
W.C. is survived by his children: son, Mark Hefflefinger and his wife, Randee, of Dallas; daughters: Lynn Ford and her husband, Joe Don, of Lubbock; Lisa Hefflefinger of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Lori Weaver and her husband, Robert, of Allen; grandchildren: Chase Hefflefinger and his wife, Tifaney, of Dallas, Logan Hefflefinger and his wife, Copper, of Dallas, Hayden Travis and her husband, Scott, of Dallas, Emilee Hefflefinger, of New York, New York; Ashlee Dunn and her husband, Lee, of Midland, Joshua Ford of Denver, Colorado, Joni Stettheimer and her husband, Chris, of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Morgan Duval of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Walt Weaver of Allen, Travis Weaver of Allen, and Zach Weaver of Allen; and great-grandchildren Hudson Hefflefinger of Dallas, Hazel Hefflefinger of Dallas, Brendan Travis of Dallas, Annalee Dunn of Midland, Addie Dunn of Midland, Brady Dunn of Midland, Dawson Dunn of Midland, and Carson Stettheimer of Ruidoso, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son, Paul Dennis, on November 5, 1957; and his wife, Peggy, on April 5, 2000 after nearly 54 years of marriage.
