Wells Brown, George Nettles - Alamogordo
George Nettles Wells Brown passed away Friday, August 14th 2015 in his home in Alamogordo, NM. An African American man born in the midst of the Great Depression in the Jim Crow South, George learned at an early age the value of hard work and education and it was his life's work to foster both. He was born in Alexandria, LA on September 12, 1931 to George and Alice Wells Brown. Drafted into the Air Force in 1952, he served four years in communications, which gave him training to begin his career as a programmer at IBM. After retiring from IBM, he dedicated his life to helping people. He received his PhD from the Universal Life Church and worked as a parental councilor, licensed hypnotherapy councilor, and minister. His pursuit of spiritual growth eventually led him to meet his wife, Carol Manchester Brown, and they married in 1983. They had two children, Paul and Christine, who soon became the center of George's life. He was committed to instilling the same passions into his children: hard work, education, and spiritual growth. George is survived by his wife, Carol Manchester Brown, his son, Paul Brown, his daughter, Christine Brown, his stepson, Phillip Marashian, his sisters, Matilda Wilson and Dorothy Winnbush and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mae Brown.
