Robert Willis Spragg II, 72, of Silver City, NM, passed away peacefully on July 6th, 2013 in Scottsdale, AZ.
Visitation will be held on July 27th, 2013 at Baca's Funeral Chapel, 3805 Delk Drive, in Silver City, NM, from 11 AM to 1 PM. A procession will leave at the chapel at 1 PM and proceed to the Cliff Gila Mesa Cemetery in Gila off Cemetery Road for a graveside service, to begin at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robert's name to the Capitan Alumni Association Scholarship Fund, PO Box 1523, Capitan, NM 88316.
Robert was born on February 12th, 1941 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He moved to Capitan, New Mexico as a teenager, where he graduated from Capitan High School in 1960. After high school, Robert moved to Silver City, NM to attend Western New Mexico University. For many years thereafter, he worked as a mechanic and ore driller, traveling throughout the southwest, before settling down in Silver City permanently in 1976. He retired from Chino Mines in 1998 and continued working for Fowler Brothers' Construction, a job he thoroughly enjoyed, until 2011.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Fred M. Spragg and Lola E. (Hulbert) Spragg, and his sister Margaret Spragg.
He is survived by Mary Spragg, of Silver City, NM and their children Joan McKinney of Aberdeen, Washington, Marion Spragg of Mesa, AZ and Fredric A. Spragg (and his wife Cindi), of Cave Creek, AZ. He is also survived by his sister, Roberta Spragg Stackhouse and her husband Dale of Riverside, IA as well as four grandchildren, one great-grandson, 11 nieces and nephews and their families, the Reed and Gourdin families of Hugoton, KS and Globe, AZ, the Shaw and Riska families of Capitan, NM, numerous brothers and sisters in law, cousins and dear friends.
