Marlene Amelia (Bernshausen) Bell, 82, passed away on May 20, 2014 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She was first diagnosed with cancer about 1985 and was at stage 4 cancer for about 10 years. She was a stron, amazing woman and put up one heck of a fight.

Marlene was born on April 24, 1932 in Pekin, Illinois to Emerson A. and Louise (Maurer) Bernshausen. She grew up and attended school in Pekin, Illinois. Marlene worked at Imperial Lithographers in the accounting department and she married Clarence "Pappy" Bell in 1974. They eventually moved to Greer, AZ where they owned and operated Pappy's Diner. Around 1988 they relocated to Ruidoso Downs and owned and operated Pappy's Diner on Hwy 70 and also operated the restaurant and bar at Cree Meadows Country Club where they were also members.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents Emerson and Louise; her older sister Rose Marie Bernshausen; and a granddaughter Lola Magdalena "Lena" Centeno.

Marlene is survived by C.F. "Pappy" Bell of Alamogordo, NM; 1 sister Martha (Clyde) Cather of Pekin, IL; 1 brother Eugene (Betty) Bernshausen, VA; 5 children JimE. (Michelle) Williams, Germany; Rebecca "Becky" Moncrief of Crandall, GA; Terry L. Williams of El Paso, TX; Vicky (John) MacClary of Newalla, OK; and Michael (Rose) Williams of Ruidoso Downs, NM; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 9th at 6:30 pm in the evening at First Baptist Church, 361 E. Hwy 70, Ruidoso Downs, NM. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to: American Breast Cancer Foundation, 1220 B. East Joppa Road, Suite 332, Towson, MD 21286 and/or The Ruidoso Animal Shelter, 430 Gavilan Canyon Road, Ruidoso, NM 88345.
