Danny S. Chavez, 72, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013 at his home in Ruidoso Downs surrounded with love and his family.

Danny was born on December 13, 1940 in Fort Stanton, NM He was raised in San Patricio and graduated from Hondo High School. He worked a barber and lived in Ruidoso. He moved to California in 1972 and on January 27, 1973 he married his beautiful wife Cruszita Chavez. He continued to live in California and work as a certified welder with Southern Pacific Railroad until his retirement in 1986 when he returned to Ruidoso Downs.

Danny loved to be outside and to work on his yard. He loved to be near the ocean and frequently visited California. He had an infectious laugh that everyone knew and loved. He was a devoted Roman Catholic that served adoration on Thursdays and was an usher for services held at Saint Eleanor Catholic Church. Danny was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and a proud grandfather.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents Pablita and Y.W. Chavez and his siblings Grace Gomez, Amarente Chavez, Senon Chavez, Efrain Chavez and Louvine Chavez.

Danny is survived by his wife Cruszita; his children Danny Chavez Jr., Gerald Chavez, Greg Chavez, Michael Chavez, Kathleen Jones, Naomi Sanchez and Myra Carta; his siblings Inez Brooks, Dela Gomez, Oralia Sanchez, Humphrey Chavez, Josie Sanchez, Melvin Chavez and Romona Nunez; his 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Services will be on Friday, November 1, 2013 starting with the Rosary at 9:30 am followed by Memorial Mass at 10:00 am. All are welcome to join.
