Larry R. Clayton, 63, went to meet his maker on Sunday, December 15th at Lubbock University Medical Center in Texas. He currently resided in Hobbs, NM, but has lived in Cortez Colorado, El Paso Texas, Deming and Ruidoso, NM.

Larry was a brilliant businessman, having earned many awards and acclimations in the construction industry. There was a declaration of appreciation written for Larry by the Governor of New Mexico and another by the Navajo Nation in appreciation for his work in Navajo/American Benefits. Larry began his career at N.E.C.A (Navajo Engineering Construction Authority) and eventually worked his way up to General Manager before retiring and taking on many other contracts with companies in NM and Texas. He was currently employed by Hungry Horse Construction in Hobbs, NM.
Larry was a decorated Vietnam Veteran having served 2 tours after graduation from Deming High School. He served in Thailand as well and was able during his life to travel the world to places like Egypt and Australia. Larry was a long time member of the American Legion and the NRA. Larry was very involved in the Republican Party and received letters of appreciation from President Bush and was admired by many past Governors and local leaders. He was instrumental in the remodel and design of the Inn of the Mountain Gods as well as the Rain Maker Golf Course in Ruidoso. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He loved the beach.
Larry was preceded in death by his father Arlis Clayton and step-father, Richard Jackson.
He is survived by his mother, Arlyse "Skippy" Jackson of Deming, His Son, Paul Clayton of Hillsboro, Oregon, His Daughter, Rochelle Clayton-Cordova of Knoxville, TN and special daughter figure Amanda Herrera of Roanoke, TX. He is also survived by his siblings Karen Bill and her Husband Mike of Anchorage AK, Laurie King and Husband Danny of Deming, Michael Jackson of Deming, Kimberly Barrett of Prescott AZ, and Matthew Jackson of Memphis TN, His Girlfriend Renee Marks of Corpus Christy, TX. He had 1 granddaughter Kailyn Cordova of Knoxville TN and many special nieces and nephews. He is also survived many friends and co-workers nationwide.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is scheduled for 1 PM, on Saturday, December 21 at Baca's Funeral Chapels in Deming. In Lieu of flowers, send donation to the American Legion Post in Ruidoso, NM. 115 Meander Drive, Ruidoso, NM 88345.
