HOLYOKE, Mass. - Sister Julia Marie Walsh (Teresa Ann), 93, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, died in Holyoke, on Dec. 3, 2012. A native of Rutland, Vt., she was the daughter of James and Julia (McNamara) Walsh.
Sister Julia graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in Rutland, and entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Rutland in 1943 from Christ the King Parish, Rutland. She became a Sister of St. Joseph of Springfield in 2001, when the two Communities merged.
She earned a bachelor's degree from the College of St. Joseph the Provider, Rutland, and a master's degree from Boston College.
Sister Julia taught at St. Peter School, Christ the King School and Mount St. Joseph Academy in Rutland. She was a member of the faculty and administration at the former St. Joseph College in Bennington, Vt., and served as president from 1966-70. She later served as executive secretary to the president of the congregation and administrative assistant in the guidance office of Mount St. Joseph Academy. She retired to Mount St. Joseph Convent, Rutland, and moved to Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke in 2005.
Besides her sisters in Community, Sister Julia leaves cousins and close friends.
Friends may call at St. Peter Church, 134 Convent Ave., Rutland, on Friday, Dec. 7, starting at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer service at 10 a.m. The funeral will follow in the church at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040-2739.
Arrangements are with Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
