BENNINGTON - Aldis G. Hill, 78, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the Albany Medical Center in New York.
He was born Feb. 29, 1936, in Bennington, the son of Aldis L. and Mildred (Greene) Hill.
He received his education in Bennington.
He served as a medic and cook in the United States Army
while stationed in Germany.
In May of 1958, he married the former Sylvia Kauppi in Shaftsbury.
In earlier years, he was employed at the A&P in Bennington. He later worked at Warren Wire and General Cable Fiber Optics in Williamstown, Mass., and for several years had been employed at Cord Master Engineering in North Adams, Mass., from which he retired in 2003.
He was a member of Bennington Lodge of Elks #567, and the American Legion Post 13.
He enjoyed woodworking, cooking and baking.
He was one of the first drivers for the Pownal Rescue Squad.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Hill, his children, Pamela Goodhue and Terry Hill, all of Bennington; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Hill, William Hill and Bradley Hill; six sisters, Trina Olson, Kathleen McCart, Rosemary Bourn, June Cardinal, Joan Facto, and Lois Eggsware; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Hollis Hill, and a sister, Shirley Hill.
At his request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.
