SANDGATE - Barbara (Sanford) Gust, 82, died Feb. 17, 2012.

She was born July 16, 1929, in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of Warren T. and Hazel (Hyde) Thayer.

She received her education in Norwalk, Conn., schools, graduating from Norwalk High School. She continued her education in New York City.

She worked as an office coordinator for Legg Mason, a brokerage firm in Norwalk, retiring in 1994 following 43 years of service. Upon retiring she and her husband relocated to Sandgate, where they enjoyed country living.

She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and the Women of St. James.

In retirement, she enjoyed assisting the elderly and serving senior meals in East Arlington.

Survivors include her husband, Edward Gust, whom she married May 28, 1994, in Norwalk; a son, Mark Sanford of Greenwich, Conn.; a daughter, Nancy Sanford of Bennington; and six grandchildren.

The Burial Office will be celebrated at St. James Episcopal Church on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Sandgate Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Monday, Feb. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m.
