Doris L. McGuire

BENNINGTON - Doris Louise McGuire, 83, died April 8, 2014, at St. Peter's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albany, N.Y.

She was born Sept. 27, 1930, in Bennington, the daughter of William Henry and Alma Cordeilia McGuire (Lacroix).

She grew up in Bennington.

She attended nursing school at Albany Medical College, and graduated with the class of 1953.

She worked as a nurse at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington, and was the supervising nurse in the hospital's operating room.

She served in the U.S. Air Force and the New York Air National Guard, from 1963 to 1972. She served as a flight nurse and attained the rank of captain.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. She was also a member of the St. Anne's Society and an associate member of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Survivors include a sister, Claire Dings; four nieces; great-nieces, great-nephews; great-great nephews and a great-great-niece. She was predeceased by an infant brother, William.

A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington, followed at 11:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Death and Burial, at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington.Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Thursday, until the time of the prayer service.Interment with military honors will take place in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.
