BURLINGTON - Esther M. Doran, 90, died on Friday, January 9, 2009, at her residence, following a long illness and with her family at her side.
She was born in West Castleton, Vt., on December 31, 1918, the daughter of Henry and Bessie (Palmer) Moore. She was a graduate of Fair Haven High School and the University of Vermont, the class of 1940. On June 20, 1948, she married John J. Doran, celebrating 60 years of marriage.
Esther was a teacher in the Burlington school system. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Burlington Business and Professional Women and a board member of the Chittenden County Correctional Center Educational program.
She is survived by her husband, John J. Doran of Burlington; her daughters, Margaret Doran and her husband Richard Terry of Lake Placid, N.Y., Pat Doran and her husband Charles London of Burlington, Cathy Wells and her husband David Wells of Huber Heights, Ohio; her grandchildren, Kevin Commo, Donna London, Karen Wells and Christopher Wells; her sister, Annette Forkey; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at St. Mark's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will take place in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fair Haven, Vt. In Esther's memory, donations may be sent to the King Street Area Youth Program, 87 King St., Burlington, VT 05401. Visiting hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13th, at the Ready Funeral and Cremation Services, North Chapel, 934 North Ave., Burlington.
