Kenneth R. Allen

POWNAL - Kenneth R. Allen, 76, of Pownal, died Dec. 2, 2010, at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 22, 1933, in Wallingford, the son of William and Alice (Bentley) Allen.

He received his education in Arlington.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 until 1955, as an aerial photographer.

Following the war he went to work at BenMont Paper Company, and then was employed at Bennington Ford Garage, and later retired following many years of service from H. Tuttle Company in Bennington. He was also a longtime self-employed locksmith in town.

Mr. Allen married the former Roberta "Bobbie" Revett, on June 16, 1951. She predeceased him on May 2, 1998.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #90 of Pownal.

He enjoyed playing cards, especially poker, casino and cribbage. He also enjoyed traveling and shopping and puttering around.

Survivors include his four children, Susan Saunders of West Rupert, Terry Allen of Pownal, Brenda Armstrong of Salem, N.Y., and Sherry Watson of Alexandria Bay, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; his brother, Richard Allen of Florida; his sister, Gloria Mills of Bethel; his half-brother, Dennis Allen of South Carolina; his fiancé, Doris Ludovicy of Norwalk, Conn.; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Robert "Toby" and Donald Allen; and one sister, Janice Fuglestad.

At his request, there will be no public services.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
