Michael P. Palfey Jr.

ORANGE CITY, Fla. - Michael Peter Palfey Jr., 72, of Orange City, Florida, died March 30, 2014, after a brief illness.

Mike was born in New Brunswick, NJ, February 23, 1942, eldest son of Michael Peter Palfey and Elizabeth (Kormondy) Palfey. Michael was one of 12 children.

Mike worked as a fireman in New Brunswick, NJ, and was a past member of the Rutland City Fire Department. Mike also worked for Rutland City Public Schools and worked in a family business, Commercial Building Services.

Mike was known for his love of his Hungarian heritage and his exceptional knowledge of plants and gardening. Mike was an avid stamp collector and was a collector of art from the Art Deco period. He was also known for his ability to tell a good story and get a good laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Judy (Kenny) Palfey of North Clarendon, VT; and his children: Bernadette and her husband, Joel Robin, of Brandon, VT; Michael and his wife, Amy, of W. Rutland, VT; Bryan and his wife, Sheila, of Wells, VT; and Charlene and her partner, Jeff Sanborn, of Rutland, VT. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Grace and her husband, Jesse Wingfield, of Mystic, CT; Grant Robin of Burlington, VT; and Garrett and Ghislaine Robin of Brandon, VT; and two-great grandchildren: Ayden and Eliot Wingfield of Mystic, CT.

He is also survived by his siblings: Elizabeth, Robert, Arlene, Beverly, Marie, Tommy, Judy and Jenny Velez of Rutland, VT, and dozens of nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Mike was predeceased by his parents; a son, Garrett Matthew Palfey; and his siblings, Eleanor, Janet and Richard.

According to his wishes, a private memorial will be held at the convenience of his family on Lake Champlain. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Rutland Area VNA & Hospice, 435 West Street, Rutland, VT 05701.
