Muriel V. McKirryher, 87, died Sunday morning, November 10, 2013, at Mountain View Center Genesis Elder Care in Rutland.
She was born April 10, 1926, in Bridgewater, VT, the daughter of the late Floyd and Verna (Miner) Wood. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Ellen (Miner) and Martin Wetherby of Danby. She attended local schools in Danby, and also attended M.S.J., and graduated from Rutland Business College.
Muriel was a school teacher
, having taught at Rutland Business College for many years, and then working at the Rutland Regional Medical Center in diagnostic imaging, retiring in 2006.
She was a former member of the D.A.R., and the United Methodist Church Woman's Group.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid Yankees fan.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Forrest and her companion, Robert Ettori of Shrewsbury; and by her daughter-in-law, Sherri McKirryher of Rutland. By her grandchildren, Shawn Forrest of Clinton, CT, Anthony Forrest and wife, Marsha of Rutland, Kimberly Forrest and companion, Lance Ortiz of Chesapeake, VA, Robert Silva and wife, Jodi of Castleton, and Jason Silva of Rutland; by her great-grandchildren, Stephen Forrest and Bryce Forrest, both of Wyoming, Meghan Forrest of Rutland, Aidan Forrest of Virginia, and Bridget, Emily and Porter Silva, all of Castleton. Also by her great-great-grandson, Bentley Silva of Castleton. Also by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Muriel was predeceased by her parents; by her husband, Lawrence J. McKirryher Sr. who died April 21, 1989; by her son, Lawrence J. McKirryher Jr. who died January 14, 2005; by her sister, Beatrice Andrews; and also by her son-in-law, Roger R. Forrest who died May 4, 2005.
Graveside services will be held Friday, November 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the East Clarendon Cemetery. The Rev. Deborah Estey will officiate.
Per her wishes, there will be no visiting hours.
