Perry E. Mattison

POWNAL - Perry E. Mattison, 63, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.He was born Aug. 26, 1949, in Bennington, the son of Ralph and Mildred (Crosier) Mattison.

He grew up in Pownal and attended local schools, graduating from Mount Anthony Union High School, Class of 1968.

He served in the U.S. Army, and received training in heavy equipment operation and repair.

For the past 35 years he had worked as a heavy equipment hauler and operator for J.H. Maxymillian Construction, transporting equipment throughout the Northeast.

He was a former member of the East Pownal Fire Department and a member of American Legion Post 90.

He enjoyed NASCAR racing, country music and maintaining his home. In earlier years, he enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his wife Linda (Sheridan) Mattison, whom he married Sept. 25, 1976, at Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; daughters Katie Keir of Brattleboro, and Kristen Mattison of North Clarendon; brother Clarence "Connie" Mattison of Florida; sisters Jannette Bishop of Pownal, and April Knapp of East Pownal; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Chester Mattison, and sister Lenora Beals.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in Towslee Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, Aug. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
