Philip S. Christy

WOODSTOCK - Philip S. Christy, 81, died Nov. 3, 2008, at the Mertens House in Woodstock.

He was born on June 2, 1927, in Hollidaysburg, Pa., the son of Arthur H. and Jeanette (McMillan) Christy.

He graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1945, then served in the U.S. Army in France for a year returning home to graduate from Penn State in 1951. He received his educational degree from there in 1964.

Mr. Christy worked for Alcoa Aluminum Co. of America until 1965 when he began teaching English and social studies at Hollidaysburg High School.

He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, American Legion Ora E. Paul Post 24 in Woodstock and St. James Episcopal Church.

Survivors include a brother, James of South Woodstock, two nieces and a nephew.

He was predeceased by a brother, Robert.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at St. James Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mertens House, 73 River St., Woodstock, VT 05091.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.
