BRIDGEWATER - Raymond F. Dawley, 89, resident of The Homestead in Woodstock, died May 1, 2010, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born Aug. 10, 1920, in Mount Holly, the son of Norris C. and Mabel A. (White) Dawley.
He was educated in Mount Holly and Ludlow.
Mr. Dawley served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked at the Jewel Brook and Bridgewater woolen mills. After military service, he was employed for many years by Vermont Log Co.
He married Veda W. Westcot June 30, 1962. Mrs. Dawley died in 2002.
In Bridgewater, Mr. Dawley was a member of the Congregational Church, American Legion Geno Robinson Post #11 and the fire department. He also served as a trustee for the church and Bridgewater TV Corp and was the town tax collector.
Survivors include many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Mike and Lisa Olmstead of Woodstock.
He was also predeceased by a daughter, Joyce Olmstead, and four sisters, Helen Burgess, Elsie Saulnier, Alice Strong and Ruth Strong.
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 7, in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Bridgewater. The Rev. Beverly Anderson, pastor of Bridgewater Congregational Church, will officiate.
