Robert Delaney

BETHEL - Robert Delaney, 86, died Oct. 7, 2008, at Genesis Health Care in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born on Jan. 28, 1922, in Manhattan, New York City, the son of Joseph and Gertrude Cashman Delaney.

After growing up in the Bronx, New York City, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served about the US Might during World War II.

Mr. Delaney married Ruth Skiber on June 16, 1943.

After the war ended, he learned the upholstery trade and opened his own business, Delaney Decorators.

He enjoyed playing golf, skiing at Suicide Six and volunteering at Gifford Hospital.

Survivors include four children, Cecilia, Roberta, Kenneth and Thomas; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bethel with the Rev. Ekekwe officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors in Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.
