Robert L. Holmes

SHAFTSBURY - Robert L. Holmes, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Albany (New York) Medical Center, surrounded by family.
He was born in Neptune City, New Jersey, the son of Kenneth and Estelle (Schlesinger) Holmes.
He graduated from Manasquan High School, received a bachelor's degree from Trenton State College and a master's degree from Rider College, all in New Jersey.
Mr. Holmes was a high school teacher and administrator for 34 years. In Vermont, he and his wife, Nancy, founded "Holmes'craft" woodworking and crafts shoppe. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Shaftsbury and North Bennington, as well as for Carbone Auto.
In Point Pleasant, New Jersey, he helped to create the Point Pleasant First Aid. In Shaftsbury, he prepared the annual town report, served as an auditor and volunteer election worker, and provided transportation with Green Mountain Express.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nancy (Moen); his children Jennifer Enright, of Point Pleasant, Timothy Holmes, of Hudson, New Hampshire, Debbie Perrine, of Barnegat, New Jersey; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, Andrew Holmes; two siblings Ruth Megill and Kenneth Holmes.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at the funeral home.
