CHESTER - Ruth Kelly Balch, age 95, died Nov. 1, 2011, at the Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on Dec. 6, 1915, in Saxtons River, Vt., the daughter of James E. and Alice (Scofield) Kelly. She grew up in Chester, graduating from Chester High School in 1933. On Nov. 16, 1939, she married Harry D. Balch who predeceased her on Jan. 1, 2011.
She worked at Readex Microprint in Chester for many years and then as an aide at Chester-Andover Elementary School until her retirement. Ruth was a founding member of St. Joseph's Church in Chester and was on the building committee for the new church, which opened in 1969.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Goodell and husband Harry of Chester and Chris Balch and husband Tom Sierzega of Colorado. She is also survived by her sister, Rosemary Croteau of Newbury, N.H.; and two grandchildren, Kim and Tucker; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Jean Willard, Helen Kiniry; and her brother, James E. Kelly Jr.
Funeral services for both Ruth and Harry will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chester, Vt., on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery in Chester. A reception will be held immediately following the burial at the Adams Funeral Home in Chester. The Adams Funeral Home in Ludlow is assisting the family.
