WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Stephen L. Frechette, 88, of Prospect Avenue left us peacefully June 14, 2013, with his family at his side, at the Knollwood Nursing Center in Worcester.
He was born in Bridgewater, Vt., on April 5, 1925, the son of Edward and Hazel (Rahue) Frechette.
Stephen was a WWII
veteran serving in both the European and Pacific Theatres.
He lived in West Springfield for most of his life. He was employed as a logistics planning specialist for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years. He retired in 1980 and was happy to say he was retired longer than he worked.
Stephen was the beloved widower of Alice (Urko) Frechette to whom he was married 59 years. He was the loving father of Jeffrey of Chesterfield, Lisa and her husband Thomas Sutter of Holden, and Melanie and her husband John Glynn of Sterling; brother of Joyce LaFlam, and Poppy of Kerstin and Mackenzie Sutter. Stephen was predeceased by three siblings, Kenneth, Paul and Kathryn Taggart. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the Toomey-O'Brien Funeral Home, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield, followed by a committal service at 12 noon in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Calling hours will precede the service from 9:30-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
