Marjorie Hinkley Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - Marjorie H. "Mardy" Hinkley, 85, died Feb. 22, 2012, at Springfield Hospital.

She was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Westfield, Mass., the daughter of Shirley A. and Edna (Kingsley) Houghton.

She graduated in 1944 from Windsor High School.

On Sept. 4, 1948, she married George A. "Joe" Hinkley in Weathersfield Bow.

Mrs. Hinkley was employed as switchboard operator at Fellows Gear Shaper in Springfield for many years. She also worked as an Avon and a Stanley Home Products representative for several years.

She volunteered at the Springfield Hospital switchboard and for the Springfield Meals on Wheels Program.

She was a member of First Congregational Church UCC in Springfield, the Order of Eastern Star and West Springfield Garden Club.

Mrs. Hinkley enjoyed knitting, was an avid bowler and a self-taught pianist.

Survivors include her husband and a son, Douglas Hinkley, both of Springfield; two daughters, Barbara Bernier of Brunswick, Maine, and Janice Stearns of Chester; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Jean Hinkley of Ascutney; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by four siblings, twin sister Marion Shultz, Roger Houghton, Dorothy Wales and Beverly Rabideau.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at First Congregational Church UCC in Springfield, with the Rev. Christine Boardman, interim pastor, officiating.

Burial will be at a later date in Ascutneyville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church UCC, 77 Main St., Springfield, VT 05156; or Springfield Humane Society, 401 Skitchewaug Trail, Springfield, VT 05156.
