Edward Pelz Obituary

BENNINGTON - Edward J. Pelz, 100, died June 26, 2018, in Bennington.
He was born May 26, 1918, in Seattle, Washington, the son of Lois Campbell and Victor Hugo Pelz.
He was a graduate of Dobbs Ferry, New York, high school; Colorado College, in 1938; a 1939 Rhodes Scholar from Colorado; and attended Columbia Business School.
Mr. Pelz married Caroline Lockwood Duncombe in 1942.
He was officer-in-charge (1942-45) of U.S. Navy gun crews on supply ships in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Persian Gulf, leaving as a lieutenant USNR.
He was a human resources executive for New York City Newspaper Publishers Association (1938-42) and The New York Times (1946-83).
Mr. Pelz was a member of the Association of American Rhodes Scholars, Society for Human Resource Management, American Economic Association, Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Chi and Alpha Kappa Psi.
Survivors include children Cami Elbow, of Seattle, Patricia Hart, of Aliso Viejo, California, Sanford Pelz, of New York City; five grandchildren, two great-granddaughters; nine nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife June 28, 2007, and a daughter, Margaret Pelz, in 1978.
A reception will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at Brookdale Fillmore Pond, 300 Village Lane, Bennington.
Burial will be at a later date in the Berlin, New York, community cemetery.
