TAFTSVILLE - Alfred George DeGrasse, 89, died July 20, 2009, at Springfield Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Jan. 14, 1920, in Roxbury, Mass., the son of Charles and Lottie (Herrick) DeGrasse.
He attended the Shady Rill one-room school in Rochester.
Mr. DeGrasse married Jeannette Wood Aug. 30, 1942.
He worked on farms and drove truck for Frank Patch and Leslie Maxfield of North Hartland. He delivered Atlantic gasoline for Sherman Manning of White River Junction, drove truck for the town of Hartford and in his retirement, he was in the scrap metal business.
He enjoyed deer hunting, gardening and mowing with a scythe.
Survivors include his wife of Taftsville; three sons, Robert of Ascutney, Kenneth of Chelsea and Donald of Canaan, N.H.; three grandsons, a granddaughter and six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Walter of Montgomery, Ala.
Mr. DeGrasse was predeceased by four brothers, Charles, Ernest, Melvin and Harold, and four sisters, Charlotte Ainsworth, Margaret DeGrasse, Eleanor Tajima and Ruby LaCourse.
Services will be at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.
