Charles J. Woods Sr. of Rutland, previously of Rensselaer, N.Y., died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012. Charles was born and raised the son of Joseph D. Sr. and Catherine (Feeley) Woods, and a graduate of St. John's Academy in Rensselaer. On Aug. 29, 1953, he married Mary Jane Woods; together, they raised three children. Charles was a chemical operator for Sterling Winthrop for many years before retiring. He was an amateur photographer and bird watcher. He was a past volunteer fireman for Clinton Heights fire department, boat builder, fisherman, historical boat enthusiast and a past communicant of the Church of St. Mary.

Charles was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane (Tremblay), and siblings, Mary Catherine Woods, Joseph D. Woods Jr., James Woods.

He is survived by three children: Charles J. and Patty Woods Jr. and their children, Matthew, Jeremy, Michael and Katie; Sister Carol Woods and her religious family the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Assisi; Mark and Martha and their children, Ryan and his wife Kaynesha, Steven, Kelsey and Joseph. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Marilyn Woods; his great-grandchildren, Camille and Charlie Woods; as well as many nieces and nephews.Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Thursday morning at 9:30 from the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer, and 10 o'clock at the Church of St. Mary, 163 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer, N.Y., where a liturgy of Christian death and burial will be celebrated. Friends may attend his calling hours in the funeral home Wednesday evening from 4-7 p.m.

Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.

The family has requested that those who wish make memorial contributions in his name to Rutland Visiting Nurse Association, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701; or the Franciscan Sisters, 1039 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
