MANCHESTER CENTER - Charles William Towslee, 86, a resident of Elm Street in Manchester Center, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loving family.
Charles was born in Danby, Vermont, on August 5, 1926, the son of Edwards C. and Emma (Payne) Towslee and attended local schools.
Charles worked as a truck driver for Swezey Lumber Company before owning and operating Breton Towslee Rubbish until his retirement in 1989.
Charles was a member and former president of the Eagles Club in Manchester, a member of the Harned-Fowler VFW Post 6471 in Manchester Center, and former President of the Dorset Sportman's Club. Charles was also a member of the Manchester Fire Department for thirteen years.
In his earlier years, Charles loved to race stock cars. He enjoyed hunting, camping, listening to country music and was a Bill Elliott NASCAR fan.
Charles is survived by his wife, the former F. Joyce Breton of Manchester Center, whom he married June 23, 1949; his children, Pauline Davison and her husband Dennis of South Londonderry and their children Matthew and Danielle, Thomas Towslee and his wife Wyneta of Manchester Center and their children Thomas, Jr. and Chuckie, Sandra Pinsonault and her husband Danny of East Dorset and their children Ethan, Brian and Sarah, Chris Towslee and his wife Lisa of Manchester Center and their daughter Kelsey, Lisa Hess and her husband George of Manchester Center and their children Ashley and Haylee and Mark Towslee and his wife Cissy of Manchester Center and their children Jonathan and Nicole; twelve great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law Clyde Greene; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Nellie Greene and Marion Richardson.
Funeral services for Charles will be held Tuesday morning, August 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Manchester Center. Pastor Steve Jewett will officiate. Interment will follow in the family lot in Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester Center.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, August 20, 2012, at Brewster Funeral Service, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center, Vermont, from 5 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
