Chester Taylor Broadwell, 87, of Rutland, died May 12, 2012, at The Pines of Rutland.

He was born in Shoreham on June 15, 1924, the son of Ralph and Katie (Taylor) Broadwell.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
He was owner and operator of Chet's Esso, Chet's Exxon and Chet's Citgo before his retirement.
On May 19, 1989, he married Irene (Farrell) Clinton Broadwell.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #31 of Rutland.
Surviving are his wife of Shrewsbury; two sons, Ralph Broadwell of Shrewsbury and Ronny Broadwell of Rutland Town; five daughters, Ellen Mazzariello of Rutland Town, Brenda Shortle of Rutland, Connie Mitchell of Rutland, Virginia Howe of South Portland, Maine, and Dawn Melen of Rutland; three sisters, Rebecca Bernstein of Augusta, Maine, Faith Palmer of St. Peters, MI, and Ruth Soule of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by stepchildren, Deborah Wilder, Star Bartrom, John LaRock, Donna Walker and Cindi Keefe.
He was predeceased by a son, Gary, and by a sister, Barbara Carrington.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 15, at 6 p.m. at Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
Officiating will be the Rev. Stuart Hawley of the United Methodist Church of Mendon.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Clifford Funeral Home.
