NORTH BENNINGTON - David Bradshaw Aldrich, 94, died Feb. 4, 2013, at home, following a short illness.

He was born Dec. 9, 1918, in Walpole, Mass., the son of Earl Augustus and Elizabeth Wood Aldrich.

He graduated from Mount Hermon School in 1936 and Harvard University in 1940, with a bachelor's of science in engineering sciences. He studied naval architecture at MIT and earned an master's of arts in architecture from Harvard.

During World War II, Mr. Aldrich was a naval architect at Brooklyn Navy Yard. He worked for architect John Lautner and others in Los Angeles and later established a solo practice in Geneva, N.Y., where he was director of urban renewal, a founding member of Geneva Housing Authority and a vestry member at Trinity Episcopal Church.

He was a partner in Diamond & Aldrich Architects Inc. until 1971, and practiced privately as David Aldrich, Architect until retiring in 1993. He served on the vestry and as senior warden of St. Peter's Church, and was a board member of McCullough Free Library, Sage City Syndicate and Fund for North Bennington. He also taught classes at Bennington Museum.

He enjoyed sailboat racing as a member of Seneca Yacht Club in Geneva, and iceboating across Lake Paran. He also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, reading, fly fishing, hiking, traveling and was an avid lepidopterist.

Survivors include his wife, Tabbie Bolk Aldrich, whom he married in 2005; children, Kate, Ann and Stuart; three grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew.

Mr. Aldrich was predeceased by his first wife, Jean Short Aldrich, whom he married in 1945; a sister, Elizabeth Newton; and a son David "Mac."

The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bennington.
