BENNINGTON - Doris M. Bourgeois, 87, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at home following a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 22, 1926, in Cohoes, N.Y., the daughter of Wilfred and Elise (Heppelle) Bourgeois.

She received her education in Bennington, and was a 1945 graduate of Bennington High School.

In earlier years she was employed at the Bradford Mill and Union Carbide Corporation. At the time of her retirement in 1985, she was employed at the Elaine Toolan Institute of Medical Research, where she had worked for 24 years.

She was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and a member of St. Anne's Society. She was a former longtime member of the Girls City League bowling team at the Bennington Lanes.

Her hobbies and interests included cooking, knitting, crocheting and playing cards.

Survivors include four sisters, Cecile Short, Rachael Kinney, Joan Dorman and Marie Langevin, all of Bennington; two brothers, Joseph Bourgeois of Bennington, and Donald Bourgeois of Leland, N.C.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four sisters and a brother, Claire E. Smith, Yvonne Brunet, Helen Lampron, Eleanore Cahill and Roosevelt Bourgeois.

The funeral will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home with a prayer, and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11:30 a.m., where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Burial will take place in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to either VNA & Hospice of Southwestern Vermont Health Care or the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.

Members of the St. Anne's Society are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. for the recitation of the Rosary.
