NORTH BENNINGTON - Douglas F. Holley Sr., 87, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington.

He was born May 23, 1925, in Eastleigh, Hampshire County, England, the son of George and Minnie (Pink) Holley.
He attended Essex Technical College in London.
Mr. Holley served in the Royal Air Force during World War II as a flight engineer and then in India with the ATC.
After emigrating in 1949, he settled in North Bennington and began as apprentice printer with Polygraphic Press, later known as Garrison Corp., advancing to master lithographer until the business closed in 1983, and he was the union's secretary for several years. He worked as a lithographer in North Adams, Mass., and Albany, N.Y., until retiring in 1985. He was then activities coordinator at Crescent Manor and retired after 20 years as assistant librarian at McCullough Library in North Bennington.
Mr. Holley enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycles, racing, golf on TV, reading and political discussion.
Survivors include a sister, Pamela Welch of Bishopstoke, Hants, England; four children, Douglas Jr. of Shaftsbury, Pamela Woodward of Montserrat, W.I., Susan McLean of North Bennington and Patricia Shulenburg of Leominster, Mass.; six grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Roy and Stanley; and in 1987, by his wife, Gladys (Batease), whom he married in 1950.
The memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home where calling hours will begin at 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date.
