POULTNEY - Elizabeth "Betty" Atwood died October 5, 2013, after a brief illness at the Rutland Regional Medical Center. She was born January 7, 1924, the daughter of Edward R. and Annie Elizabeth (Pritchard) Jones.

Betty survived the Great Depression and graduated from Poultney High School in 1943. She then served in Washington D.C. until 1947 as an F.B.I. fingerprint technician.

Upon returning to Poultney, she was employed in the Green Mountain College food service until her retirement in 1990. Following retirement, she worked part-time at the Journal Press.

She was a founding member of Poultney's St. David's Society and a familiar sight dressed in authentic Welsh costume at Slate Valley Museum, Green Mountain College cultural functions, and at Poultney's annual July 4th parades.

Her pastimes included crocheting, reading, shopping with her dear friend Peggy, and spending time with three generations of her children.

Survivors include her children, Edwin Atwood and wife, Eva of Catskills, NY, L. Michael Atwood and wife, Linda of Whitehall, NY, Sarah Alt and husband, George of Fair Haven, VT, Karen Berger and husband, Peter of Mount Holly, VT, and Idris Atwood and wife, Karen of Poultney, VT, as well as by 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and her best friend of over 80 years, Peggy Ellis.

She was predeceased by her parents and three brothers, Richard "Peano" Jones, Idris Pritchard, and E. Kenneth Jones.

A graveside service will be held at Poultney Cemetery, Sunday, October 20, at 2 p.m. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Betty's life at the American Legion, Granville Street, in Poultney, immediately following the service.

Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Betty's memory to the Foley Cancer Center,160 Allen Street, Rutland, VT 05701; or the , PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
