BELLOWS FALLS - Irene Curtis, 68, died March 11, 2010, at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, with cancer and lymphedema.

She was born Dec. 20, 1941, in Rutland, the daughter of Earl and Frances (Biathrow) Colby.

She was educated at the Bridgewater and Tyson schools. She worked many years in the local area caring for children and helping a number of families. She also worked on the Colby Farm in Plymouth Kingdom. She helped at local Bible and Sunday schools and served with the Civil Air Patrol in Springfield. She was most recently living in Bellows Falls.

She is survived by her son, Earl Curtis of Bellows Falls; her two daughters; Naomi Dennett of Reading and Susan Brooks of Bellows Falls; seven grandchildren; a sister, Sandra Steele of South Royalton; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was predeceased by a son, Everett Curtis, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 19, at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock. Burial will be in the Bridgewater Hill Cemetery at a later date.
