DANBY - James W. McLellan, 84, died peacefully, after a long illness, on June 17, 2013, at Our House Too in Rutland.

He was born in Danby, Jan. 21, 1929, son of David A. and Katherine (Belden) McLellan.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marines Corps stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina, serving during the Korean conflict, where he was awarded a medal for good conduct while stationed there.

James was the owner-operator of McLellan's Appliance in Danby.

He married Rose Goicz from Worcester, Mass., and started his own business in Danby repairing and selling televisions from his small shop. In the late '60s, Jim, with the help of friends, launched a cable business bringing three channels to the residents of Danby. He also installed a cable business with the help of his son in Clarendon. He eventually sold the businesses to Adelphia (now Comcast) in 1999.

Jim loved to hunt and fish, owned a camp where he and he friends would get together and build the long-lasting friendships he enjoyed throughout his life. He also owned a camp on Lake Champlain where his family enjoyed the summers. He began the JISP (junior instructor ski program) program for the Currier Memorial School and took children to Bromley all throughout the years his children were in grade school.

Surviving are three daughters, Karen LaMay of Wallingford, Cathy McLellan of Dorset and Bonnie McLellan of Rutland; a son, Mark McLellan of Danby; a brother, David B. McLellan of Danby; a sister, Patricia Miller of Belvidere, Ill.; six grandchildren, James DeRosia, Camille DeRosia, Ana McFarren, Cal DeRosia, Lauren and Evan Biederman; a great-granddaughter, Brianna McFarren. He was predeceased by two sisters, Janice Dansro and Alice Martin; and his former wife, Rose T. McLellan, on January 7, 1994.

The services will be graveside in Scottsville Cemetery Monday, June 24, at 1:00 p.m, followed by a reception at the Danby Firehouse.

There are no calling hours.
