HOUSTON, Texas - Janis Bresnahan Spruth passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2018, at her home in Houston, Texas, after a long illness. Her husband, Jack, sister Carole Ann Shouldice and great-niece Caitlin Banfield were by her side.
Janis was born in Manchester, NH, on April 24, 1933, to Francis and Esther Bresnahan; she was the eldest of three. Her parents moved to Rutland, VT, in 1947. She graduated from Rutland High School and Mary Fletcher Hospital School of Nursing.
Janis married Kjell Ingerbrigtsen and in 1958, they had a son, Kjell, and later divorced. Janis eventually found Jack; they were married for 34 years.
Janis had a vibrant spirit searching for fun, travel and adventure. She enjoyed tennis, sailing, skiing and spending time on Lake Dunmore at her family camp. While known to be a bit of a perfectionist, she taught her nieces and nephews proper sailing and tennis skills which always started with a morning jog at the lake.
Janis was predeceased by her parents. She leaves behind her brother, Roger (Lee) Bresnahan, of Essex, MA, sister Carole (William) Shouldice, of Leicester, VT; son Kjell, of Corpus Christi, TX; as well as stepson Brandon, of NY, and stepdaughter Michelle, of IL. She has seven grandchildren, one great-grandson and one great-granddaughter. She also leaves behind six nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and -nephews.
A private celebration of her life and burial will be held in Vermont at a later date.
