DORSET - With sadness, we mark the unexpected passing of John R. Mylott on Thursday, July 12, 2012. He was welcomed with licks and wagging tails at the Rainbow Bridge by his beloved pets that passed before him, including Bobby, Honey Jo, JJ and Jake.

John was born in Bennington on July 28, 1946, to Frank and Sarah (Stannard) Mylott and grew up in the Dorset and Manchester area.

He met Verna Lee Tifft in 1974 and they were married September 18, 1976. She was the love of his life and they appreciated every moment they spent together.

He was very proud of his children, Heidi Underwood of Stratton and Tom Mylott of Bennington. They both brought such happiness to his life.

One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren - fishing, playing and roasting marshmallows around the campfire. "Poppy John" enjoyed immensely sharing some of his quirky sayings with them, with a mischievous sparkle in his eye.

You knew where you stood with John and his family and friends considered that one of his best attributes.

He was a well-known contractor throughout the area for many years. John loved hunting and fishing and spending time on the back deck at his camp enjoying the great outdoors.

He leaves his wife, Verna Lee; daughter Heidi and son-in-law Matt, son Tom and fiancée Amanda, daughter Erica Stannard; grandchildren Ayden, Delana, Oliver and Acea; brother Joe and sister-in-law Lindy; sister Sheila and brother-in-law Fred; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Sarah, older brother Tommy and sister-in-law Theresa.

A service in celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 16, at 1 p.m. at Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester Center with Reverend John Mitchell, rector of Zion Episcopal Church, officiating. In honor of John, the family requests that you attend in casual attire.

Memorial gifts may be made to the family in care of Brewster Funeral Home, PO Box 885, Manchester Center, VT 05255.
